Engage with ERCOT. We are seeking partnerships to solve for emerging challenges and opportunities to meet ERCOT's goal of providing a reliable grid, efficient electricity markets, open access, and retail choice.

RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PARTNERSHIP ENGAGEMENT (RIPE)

RIPE PROGRAM

Latest Grid Transformation
Proof-of-Concept Case Studies

Developing generic Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) models of crypto miners, datacenters, and electrolyzers to develop deeper understanding of how these facilities work and how they can impact grid stability.

Large Load Modeling

Developing changes to Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC) and Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) tools that incorporate multi-interval look ahead for energy storage resources, so that charge is available when needed most

Battery State of Charge Optimization

Developing a platform to aggregate distributed energy resource (DER) information in a single platform, pulling information from aggregators, individual DERs, and other sources and also providing analytics/situational awareness

ERCOT Distribution Awareness Platform (EDAP)

Studying if reactive power can be optimized across multiple time intervals, minimizing capacitor/tap switching while keeping voltage within bounds

Reactive Power Optimization

Demonstrating the feasibility of using phasor measurement units (PMUs) and existing Real-Time Dynamics Monitoring Systems (RTDMSs) to measure system strength and inertia

Inertia and System Strength Management

Neither ERCOT’s agreement to partner on any given RIPE project nor ERCOT’s pursual of a topic in an ERCOT grid transformation white paper should be construed as an ERCOT endorsement of any technology, change in market structure or operations, or change in Protocols or any other authority. RIPE partnership does not constitute ERCOT endorsement of the partner, its products, or services.
