ERCOT Welcomes the City of Caldwell to the ERCOT System
(Austin, TX) – The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT) today announced that the City of Caldwell’s municipal utility has joined the ERCOT System.
Caldwell, located in Burleson County about 80 miles northeast of Austin, serves approximately 2,000 premises and 4,000 residents — who will now benefit from access to Texas’ competitive wholesale electric market through the ERCOT grid.
“This transition reflects strong collaboration between the City of Caldwell, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and ERCOT to ensure a smooth integration into the ERCOT System,” said Pablo Vegas, ERCOT President and CEO. “We are committed to maintaining a reliable electric grid for Texans and are pleased to welcome the City of Caldwell to ERCOT.”
Previously located in the Eastern Interconnection within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region, Caldwell has completed its transition into the ERCOT grid following the approval by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) on April 24, 2025. The city will continue to serve its residential, business, and industrial customers. The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) Transmission Services Corporation is responsible for the transmission system that connects Caldwell to the ERCOT grid.
Customers who have moved into ERCOT should visit the City of Caldwell’s website for more information. Today's Market Notice also provides more information. Additional updates regarding the integration of the Caldwell load can be found in PUCT Docket No. 57517.
