M-A073025-02 Redacted Network Operations Test Models with RTC+B Representation of Energy Storage Resources

NOTICE DATE: September 4, 2025

NOTICE TYPE: M-A073025-02 Operations

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Redacted Network Operations Test Models with RTC+B Representation of Energy Storage Resources

INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Market Participants

DAYS AFFECTED: October 15, 2025

LONG DESCRIPTION: The Real-Time Co-optimization Plus Batteries (RTC+B) project is anticipated to go-live on December 5, 2025. In addition to making significant Market design changes, this project also transitions to a new method of representing Energy Storage Resources (ESRs) in the ERCOT Network Operations Model.

As obligated by Nodal Protocols section 3.10.1(3), ERCOT must provide Network Operations Models representing future states of the grid for testing purposes.  These test models are posted monthly to the Redacted Network Operations Test Model and Difference Report page of the ERCOT Market Information System (MIS).

Per the "Model Complete and Available for Test" column within the table in 3.10.1(3), ERCOT must provide test models representing the December model loads on or before October 15. With the RTC+B project go-live scheduled to occur in December, all models posted in October, with one exception, will reflect the new post-RTC+B go-live representation of ESRs. An additional pre-RTC+B formatted model for the first load of December will also be provided.

Notable changes in the upcoming RTC+B models:

  • BatteryGeneratingUnit instances have replaced the combination of HydroGeneratingUnit and ControllableLoadResource instance pairs that are currently used to represent ESRs.
  • The name of each BatteryGeneratingUnit instance is different than the name of its HydroGeneratingUnit predecessor.

To help Market Participants prepare for the schema changes to the Network Operations Model associated with this transition, ERCOT has created multiple RTC+B representations of current Network Operations Models. Redacted versions of these models have been posted to the  Preview of Modified Redacted CIM Network Model page of the MIS.
