M-A051826-01 Generation Capacity Information in Lieu of May 2026 Report on Capacity, Demand, and Reserves in the ERCOT Region (CDR)

NOTICE DATE: May 18, 2026

NOTICE TYPE: M-A051826-01 General

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Generation Capacity Information in Lieu of May 2026 Report on Capacity, Demand, and Reserves in the ERCOT Region (CDR)

INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Market Participants

DAYS AFFECTED: May 18, 2026

LONG DESCRIPTION: On May 18, 2026, ERCOT filed with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) in Project No. 55999 a request for good cause exception to ERCOT Protocols Section 3.2.6(1) to not perform the May 2026 Report on Capacity, Demand, and Reserves in the ERCOT Region (CDR).  This is necessary because ERCOT has also requested to adjust the 2026 Preliminary Long-Term Load Forecast (LTLF), which is a forecast used to develop the CDR.  Depending on which LTLF adjustment option the PUCT approves, the LTLF may not be finalized until mid-August 2026.  A CDR issued after that time would have limited value, particularly since the December 2026 CDR will be issued shortly thereafter on its regular schedule.

The PUCT is anticipated to consider ERCOT's request for a good cause exception at the June 18, 2026 Open Meeting.  For transparency to the market, ERCOT has nevertheless posted to the Resource Adequacy page of the ERCOT website generation resource capacity information typically included in the CDR, but limited to the winter and summer seasons for the five-year forecast period.  That information is also attached to this Market Notice for ease of reference.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ERCOT's May 18, 2026 filing requesting that the PUCT approve a good cause exception to not perform the May 2026 CDR is available on the PUCT's website in Project No. 55999.

ERCOT's May 18, 2026 filing requesting an adjustment to the LTLF is available in PUCT Project No. 59772.  Additional details on the LTLF are available in ERCOT's April 15, 2026 filing in PUCT Project No. 58777.
