SHORT DESCRIPTION: Issuance of Request for Proposal for Capacity for Summer 2024 under ERCOT Protocols 6.5.1.1(4)

LONG DESCRIPTION: Today, ERCOT is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) to procure capacity to meet Load and reserve requirements during the summer 2024 Peak Load Season. This procurement was noticed in the Market Notice that ERCOT issued on May 3, 2024, M-A050324-01 Notice Regarding Forthcoming Issuance of Request for Proposals for Capacity for Summer 2024 under ERCOT Protocols § 6.5.1.1(4).
This procurement is in accordance with paragraph (4) of ERCOT Protocols § 6.5.1.1, which recognizes ERCOT’s “authority to prevent an anticipated Emergency Condition relating to serving Load in the current or next Season by procuring existing capacity that may be used to maintain ERCOT System reliability in a manner not otherwise delineated in these Protocols and the Operating Guides.”
The RFP and the associated Governing Document issued today provide important details regarding the proposed procurement process. ERCOT may issue an amended RFP and Governing Document by Wednesday, May 29, 2024, after submission of any comments. ERCOT will issue a Market Notice by Tuesday, June 25, 2024, identifying any Qualified Scheduling Entities receiving awards along with the relevant megawatt quantities and prices awarded.
