SHORT DESCRIPTION: Implementation Details of NPRR 1265, Unregistered Distributed Generator

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  All Market Participants

DAYS AFFECTED:  June 1, 2026

LONG DESCRIPTION: On June 1, 2026, Nodal Protocol language associated with Nodal Protocol Revision Request (NPRR) 1265, Unregistered Distributed Generator, will be implemented.

NPRR1265 establishes a definition for Unregistered Distributed Generators (UDGs) (1 MW or less) and introduces new reporting requirements for Transmission Service Providers (TSPs) and Distribution Service Providers (DSPs) to support improved system modeling and reliability.  With this implementation, the first collection and reporting efforts will start in January of 2027.

ACTION REQUIRED: Affected Market Participants (including DSPs, TSPs, and Non-Opt-in Entities (NOIEs)) should:

  • Review NPRR1265 Protocol revisions;
  • Evaluate impacts to systems and business processes;
  • Prepare for UDG data collection and reporting requirements; and
  • Participate in ERCOT stakeholder activities at the Network Data Support Working Group (NDSWG).

Key events for initial reporting efforts:

  • January 15, 2027: ERCOT will post pre-populated data
  • February 1, 2027: DSP must submit UDG data to TSP
  • March 30, 2027: TSP must update Network Operations Model
  • Annually: ERCOT will publish UDG report

The last annual Unregistered DG Installed Capacity Quarterly Report required by current Protocol language has been posted to the ERCOT website.

In accordance with Protocol Section 21.6, Nodal Protocol Revision Implementation, ERCOT provides notice as soon as practicable, but no later than ten days prior to implementation.
