M-A011626-01 Enhancements to the ERCOT Outage Scheduler

NOTICE DATE: January 16, 2026

NOTICE TYPE: M-A011626-01 General

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Enhancements to the ERCOT Outage Scheduler

INTENDED AUDIENCE: All Market Participants

DAYS AFFECTED: February 26, 2026

LONG DESCRIPTION: The following enhancements to the ERCOT Outage Scheduler will become effective on February 26, 2026:

  • A new warning will be sent when a Resource outage High Sustained Limit (HSL) value exceeds the available Resource Planned Outage Limit (RPOL) (formerly Maximum Daily Resource Planned Outage Capacity (MDRPOC)).
  • To allow for a better calculation of available capacity, Resource outage requests with the same megawatt (MW) values will no longer be allowed to overlap. Overlapping derates with different MW values will still be allowed. A new warning will be presented showing the conflicting outage Identifiers.
  • To better align with Protocol language, all Maintenance 2 outages' Planned Start must be at least one day before the start of the outage. All Maintenance 3 outages' Planned Start must be at least three days before the start of the outage.
  • When an outage request is created and the Nature of Work is "Other" or "Unknown," the requestor will receive a message to update the Nature of Work and/or add notes to the Requester Notes explaining the reason the outage is being taken.
  • Before an outage request is considered complete, the Nature of Work must be updated to something besides "Other" or "Unknown," or a note must be included explaining what work was being performed. A new warning message will be sent to remind the requestor to update the Nature of Work or add a note once the outage has ended.
  • Currently, only single outage requests can be entered using the Recurring Outage function in the Outage Scheduler User Interface (OSUI) and Application Programming Interface (API). With this enhancement, the ability to enter Recurring Group Outages will be available using the OSUI and API.
  • Outages greater than six years past their Planned/Actual End are being purged from the Outage Scheduler database.
