Voluntary Load Reduction Programs

A customer may decide independently to reduce consumption from its scheduled or anticipated level in response to price signals or high demand on the ERCOT system, without its being in the formal Load Acting as a Resource (LaaR) or Balancing Up Load (BUL) programs. This is known as voluntary load reduction.

These customers may have the opportunity to benefit financially during periods when the Market Clearing Price for Energy (MCPE) is high. Transmission/distribution service providers (TDSPs) and retail electric providers (REPs) often offer voluntary load-response and standard offer programs. ERCOT encourages customers to check with their TDSPs and REPs to find out what programs are available to them.
