ERCOT at a Glance: News Update - January 9, 2006
TOPICS:
E-MAIL SYSTEM NOW HAS SPECIFIC SIGN-UP LISTS FOR MARKET NOTICES
ERCOT has instituted a new distribution process for e-mail market notices to replace the previous practice of using subcommittee and working group e-mail lists for market notifications. The new list management system allows ERCOT to more accurately direct notices to the intended audiences. Anyone wishing to receive official market notices in the future is required to sign up for the new distribution lists, as the subcommittee and working group lists are no longer being used for distribution of market notices as of January 1.
The new lists are for distribution of information by ERCOT. Subcommittee and working group business will continue to be conducted through their appropriate lists. In addition, individuals who need to provide information to the market should continue using the existing exploder lists.
Individuals can subscribe to the e-mail lists under “Quick Links” at www.ercot.com or at ERCOT Mail Lists.
RETAIL TRANSACTION PROCESSING RESUMES AFTER HARDWARE FAILURE; DATA RESTORATION IN PROGRESS
ERCOT’s retail transaction system was out of service December 26-28 due to a hardware system failure. Service was restored and transaction processing resumed at 7:30 a.m., December 30. All settlement calculations and statements will be accurate and complete for wholesale market activity, and no loss of production data was experienced, CEO Tom Schrader said.
In addition, some data extracts and reports were suspended as a result of the outage. Normal production of almost all reports was restored before or during the past weekend. Restoration of data and market participant reports are expected to be current by early next week.
ERCOT and market participants worked together to minimize the impact on Texas electric consumers, Schrader said. “ERCOT extends its strong appreciation to all market participants for their dedication and cooperation during the holiday week outage,” he said. “ERCOT has begun a thorough evaluation of the incident and has initiated an action plan to prevent a recurrence of the event.”
