Energy Emergency Level 1

Please Reduce Electric Use Now

Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 1

We have started emergency operations because of low power reserves. This means electric demand is high and electric generation supply is low. There are no controlled outages at this time.

Please safely reduce electric use now. Conservation tips, such as turning off lights and appliances, are available on the Public Utility Commission’s Power to Save Texas website.

What We’re Doing Now

While we do not own or operate generating units, declaring an energy emergency allows our control room operators to use additional tools that are only available in emergency conditions. These include importing power from other electric grids and using an Emergency Response Service to quickly reduce electric use at commercial and small industrial businesses.

Critical Medical Needs Reminder

If you have critical medical needs, contact your local electric utility and have a backup plan in case controlled outages are needed later.

Electric Grid Description

A level 1 energy emergency means operating reserves for the Texas grid have dropped below 2,300 megawatts and are not expected to recover within 30 minutes. One megawatt serves about 200 Texas homes.

See ERCOT’s news releases or this overview of emergency conditions for more information.
