Carolyn E. Shellman serves as executive vice president and general counsel of CPS Energy, the country’s largest municipally owned utility providing both electric and gas service. Ms. Shellman also serves as the secretary to the CPS Board of Trustees.
Throughout her legal career, Ms. Shellman has acquired broad experience with all aspects of the electric industry. Before she joined CPS Energy in 2006, Ms. Shellman served as vice president and general counsel for ERCOT. Earlier in her career, Ms. Shellman was a partner with Hunton & Williams LLP and Bickerstaff Heath & Smiley LLP. Before entering private practice, she served as director of the Hearings Division and secretary of the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
Ms. Shellman is an honors graduate of Vassar College and holds a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Oklahoma. She is an alumna of Leadership Texas, a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar Associations of both Texas and Oklahoma, and the William S. Sessions Inns of Court. She also is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
